Private Sanctuary Retreat Experience for Long-lasting Transformation
Casa de Mirabeau, San Diego, California
Limited capacity: 16–20 participants
Healing Gardens

Who Is This Retreat For?

This one-day restoration retreat is designed for licensed therapists (LMFTs, LCSWs, psychologists), counselors, and mental health professionals who hold clients’ traumatic material session after session and experience vicarious traumatization and compassion fatigue that accumulates over years of practice.
Research shows that 67% of mental health professionals report high levels of burnout (American Psychological Association), and 21 – 67% experience vicarious traumatization from repeated exposure to clients’ trauma (multiple peer-reviewed studies). Many professionals do not self-report these symptoms due to professional expectations and stigma.
If you find yourself emotionally depleted after difficult sessions, carrying clients’ pain home with you, or wondering how much longer you can sustain this work, this training offers both immediate relief and lasting protection.
The training takes place in an intimate, healing environment and addresses both professional application with clients and your own nervous system protection.

What You’ll Learn and Experience

The Dr. Carolle Method™

1. DCIRT™ – Dr. Carolle’s Instant Reset Technique

A 30-second rapid acupressure intervention you can use when clients are in acute emotional distress during sessions, including:

  • Panic attacks
  • Dissociation
  • Overwhelming emotional flooding
  • Trauma triggering
DCIRT provides immediate stabilization, allowing therapeutic work to continue safely.
2. DCIAM – Dr. Carolle’s Instant Anti-Distress Method

A 3-breath parasympathetic activation technique with dual application:

  • Before sessions with highly traumatized clients (centering)
  • Between difficult sessions (reset)
  • At the end of the day (release and decompression)
DCIAM prevents the accumulation of vicarious trauma.
You will learn how to teach clients this method as a self-regulation tool for ongoing emotional management.
3. DCSRT™ – Dr. Carolle’s Self-Reset Technique

DCSRT is used for:

  • Administrative overwhelm
  • Documentation fatigue
  • Insurance frustrations
  • Tension headaches and cognitive overload
Note: DCIRT and DCIAM are always used together for emotional trauma situations. DCSRT is used specifically for non-trauma stress and overwhelm.

METRT – Murat Emotional Trauma Release Technique

Optional individual 2–3 minute hands-on trauma release sessions for therapists seeking personal restoration.
METRT is not taught, but will be performed individually by Dr. Carolle on participants who request it during the training. This brief hands-on trauma release session addresses accumulated secondary trauma and compassion fatigue that healthcare workers carry from years of witnessing suffering, allowing them to start fresh.
Note: These techniques are grounded in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles and adapted for modern clinical use.
Healing Gardens

Every participant receives Dr. Carolle's Trauma-Release Training Manual for Therapists and Mental Health Professionals

With detailed instructions and illustrations covering DCIRT™, DCIAM™, and DCSRT™.

Your Sanctuary, Your Way

During the retreat, this garden becomes your own. This space meets you where you are, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Experiential Practice, Human Presence & Prevention of Helplessness

This retreat addresses one of the primary drivers of therapist burnout: helplessness in the face of suffering.
When you repeatedly witness clients’ emotional pain without having an effective way to intervene in moments of acute distress, secondary trauma can accumulate, not from caring too much, but from feeling unable to provide immediate support in critical moments.
During the retreat, you receive ample supervised time to practice using these methods with one another in a safe, structured environment.
You’ll learn not only how to apply the techniques, but how to be with another human being in acute emotional distress.
The retreat emphasizes:
Establishing a calm, grounded presence
  • Establishing calm, grounded presence
  • Making attuned, respectful eye contact
  • Using gentle, supportive touch when clinically and professionally appropriate
  • Recognizing nervous system cues in real time
  • Responding with confidence rather than emotional withdrawal
By the end of the training, participants not only regulate themselves but also feel competent to offer meaningful human support in critical moments without absorbing the emotional burden. This restores agency, preserves empathy, and prevents the progressive emotional numbing often labeled as “compassion fatigue.”
You will leave with techniques you can use in your very next therapy session, no lengthy integration period required.

Why This Works – Crisis-Tested Over Two Decades

These techniques were not developed in a classroom. They were created out of necessity – in conditions where immediate stabilization was required with no equipment, no time, and no professional infrastructure. They have been refined over 20 years of frontline crisis response and have proven effective for decades. –

2008 – Hurricane Katrina

First responders and survivors. Sustained effectiveness documented 17 years later.

2010 – Haiti Earthquake

Hundreds of first responders, survivors, clergy, and healthcare providers under extreme conditions with no mental health infrastructure and no time for prolonged interventions. Outcomes documented 15 years later. 25+ years of ongoing service through Hôpital St. Joseph.

2012 – San Diego Mesa College

A student died by suicide during finals week, witnessed by 20 staff members – librarians, custodians, first responders, and therapists. Dr. Carolle was called in to work with the staff who responded. The lead therapist (licensed LMFT) confirmed results 13 years later:
“Nothing short of miraculous. Although this may deviate from traditional forms of therapy and trauma response, it is clearly effective, long-lasting, and can assist in all aspects of recovery – and it sticks.”

2017 – Del Cerro –San Diego

A 22-year-old was murdered in front of 20 family members during a party. The family was paralyzed–couldn’t eat, sleep, or go outside. Traditional therapy the next day made it worse. Three days later, I worked with each family member individually.   Johnny L. (adult family member): “Just her presence seemed to lift the dark energy. It was like a healing surgical procedure with no post-operative pain. That night, for the first time since the tragedy, everyone slept soundly.”   John (age 9 at the time, now 17): “You took away our fear and gave us the courage to go outside again. What you did made an enormous difference. We had been suffering for days, and you instantly changed everything, as if flipping a switch.”

December 2024 – Multi-City Crisis Tour

Emergency response across Springfield and Columbus, Ohio; Brooklyn, New York; and San Diego – scheduled for two days, kept for seven. Monthly ongoing work with 150–200+ traumatized community members and staff through the Haitian Bridge Alliance, San Diego.

March 2026 – Wicomico County, Maryland

Community crisis response serving an entire traumatized community across all seven professional groups – clergy, teachers, first responders, community workers, caregivers, mental health professionals, and community leaders – alongside families and children in acute distress. Sessions delivered in English, Spanish, and Haitian Kreyòl. Pro bono value assessed at $250,000.

Ongoing – AKESNA Sisters, Haiti

Two sisters were murdered. The remaining sisters continued their ministry using these techniques. Monthly crisis support continues.

What Makes This Different

Dr. Carolle Jean-Murat, MD, FACOG, is a board-certified physician and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists with over 40 years of medical experience, who developed these techniques after experiencing severe professional burnout herself.
She serves as co-administrator of a hospital in Haiti, where she has led medical and mental health teams under extreme crisis conditions for over 25 years.
This work is grounded in decades of clinical medicine and surgery, refined through real-world crisis response, and informed by formal leadership training through Landmark Education.
These methods are neurobiologically grounded interventions, not theoretical or generic wellness programming.
Training at Casa de Mirabeau offers both skill acquisition and personal restoration in an intimate healing environment, where you can focus on learning these powerful techniques while receiving a nervous system reset.
She is also the lead singer of Akisha & The Art Effects, integrating music into crisis response and community healing.
