Ask Dr. Carolle |
I am concerned about my mother who is forty-five. She is experiencing sudden spotting, cramping, and exhaustion. She has been waiting for months to get into the gynecologists office. Yesterday she was at work and felt like she wet her pants a little. When she went to the bathroom she found that she had started her period. Only a week or two after her last and that the spurt was very heavy. She is also quite depressed about her health, and feels nauseated almost all of the time. Are these symptoms of menopause? If you could help I would be grateful.
Your mother is still menstruating, so she cannot be having menopausal symptoms. Menopause or change of life, means the cessation of menstruation. She is experiencing symptoms that could be related to stress and a variety of illnesses. Only by taking a good look at her present life situation and seeing her health care provider can the exact cause of her problems be determined.
