Ask Dr. Carolle |
I have a history of recurrent bladder
infections. I am trying my best to prevent them. How can I make sure that they do not turn
into a kidney infection?
The biggest problem
with a bladder infection is if it progresses to a kidney infection or pyelonephritis. This
can result in scarring and damage to the kidney tissue, subsequently causing high blood
pressure, heart disease and strokes.
If you have a bladder infection:
- You will possibly experience chills or a
fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit
- You will most likely have lower back
pain or discomfort
Be sure to take all of your prescribed
medications exactly as instructed.
Call your health-care provider if signs
and symptoms of your infection does not subside after two or three days.
